Two quotes come to mind from Austrian Holocaust survivor and neurologist and psychiatrist, Viktor Frankl:
Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms—to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way.
Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.
When confronted with extremely negative circumstances in a dark world of cancer, deranged psychopathic murderers masquerading as religious zealots, economic uncertainty, asinine political blathering from our leaders and “Fake News” media, will you continue to walk out the life God has for YOU? Will continue to allow your inner light to shine brightly to penetrate the surrounding darkness?
Living the life of your dreams isn’t about safely navigating your way around suffering and difficulty while desparatly clinging to your security. It’s about stepping into a life of significance while taking great risks and living your life fully engaged.
If one thing is clear from the Heroes of Faith passage in the Book of Hebrews, it is that how LONG you live does not reflect how WELL you lived your life. The real question is, were you fully alive when you died?
