While trying to live the life of your DREAMS, you will often crash into someone else living their NIGHTMARE. Life can get very messy and hearts get bruised if not completely broken. Here is where you cash in your reality check.
Will you continue to walk out the life God has for YOU to live in a world of cancer, deranged psychopathic murderers masquerading as religious zealots, economic uncertainty, asinine political blathering from our leaders, etc?
To live the life of your dreams is not about finding a way around suffering and difficulty while desperately clinging to your security. It’s about stepping into a life of significance, taking risks and living life fully engaged!
In the words of Hunter Thompson,
“Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming “Wow! What a Ride!”
Now, that’s a way to live!
We also need to realize that this journey to the grave is a long and arduous and often meandering path. There is a part of us that is eternal and will last way beyond the part of us that has an expiration date. We must keep our focus on the bigger picture of a well-lived life. We often forget that we are a cherished spiritual being when we’re burping up Fanta orange soda and Cheetos, right?
If one thing is clear from the Heroes of Faith passage in the Book of Hebrews, it is that how LONG you live does not necessarily reflect how WELL you’ve lived.
The real question is, were you fully alive when you died?
